Metadata is practically everywhere if you just know where to find it. Metadata is essentially data about another data. The most common place for metadata to be found is the library. With all the books that are piled up the library you would have a hard time looking for the one that you want to read. With this problem librarians found a way to make sure that people that visit the library would not have a problem looking for the books that they want to read. With numbers and symbols they made sure that going to the library would be a different experience.

With numbers and symbols people are now able to look for the books that they want. With books piling up all over the place without something that can keep those in order for easy access would need you to look for a book with your bare hands in hours! Not to mention that when you look for a book without names or numbers it would take you days before you may find the book that you want. This labelling method is called metadata. Librarians use each and every single information that you get from a book like who wrote the book, what year it was published and of course the title of the book. This would make it very easy for you to find the book that you want with ease.

Now metadata isn’t just found in any library that we have today. Metadata is well used in the internet today as well, with websites using codex you would sure find metadata in those codes if you just look on the right places. Codes are full of metadata for the computer to read it faster. One example would be search engines, let’s take for example Google. Google uses metadata to search for the things that the user commands it to. So if you search for a car Google would come up with millions of answers pertaining to the word car. No matter what car it is as long it is a car you will have it.

That’s why when you where first taught on how to use Google it is strongly recommended that you type in the specific words you want to narrow down your search to more than half of what you would have typed. This metadata technique has been used for quite some time now and everywhere you look there are things that fall down as metadata. Making our world a much more simple place to live in. Imagine a world without metadata and you would be lost just like that. With companies using metadata to keep data on their projects and employees they would shut down.
